Kiaan's first bump

"Waaaaaaaaa... Waaaaaaaaaaa... Waaaaaaaaaaaaa"

The little boy's cry filled the entire Kundrra household. Tejasswi was in the kitchen when the wailing reverberated through the air and reached her. In an instant she sprinted out of the space, leaving the kitchen staff to handle dinner preparation.

"Baby!" Her heart went into a frenzy. Her Kiaan sounded in pain.

She sprinted to the mini nursery at the end of the right wing of the floor where she left the six-month-old baby with Karan so that she could go make dinner.

The door to the nursery banged in force when she slammed it open. To her surprise, her wailing baby was on his arm and he was rubbing the baby's forehead. He had a scared and worried expression.

"Sunny! Baby!" Tejasswi rushed to them.

"Laddoo!" Karan looked up at her and went to her, too.

Tejasswi immediately took Kiaan from Karan and rocked and soothed him. Karan continued to rub the baby's forehead. The baby would not stop crying.

"What happened to Sunny? Did Kiaan fall? Did you leave him unattended?"

"No! I never took my eyes off him. I swear."

"Then why is he in pain? And what happened to his forehead?" Tejasswi lightly brushed away Karan's hand from the baby's forehead but there was no bruise whatsoever. She then checked his arms, body, and legs, afraid there was any cut.

"I... Well, I... I...." the young father stuttered, nervously.

"You what?" asked Teju, her worry escalated. She kissed the baby's cheeks repeatedly to ease him but he kept crying.

"I... I...."

"You did what Karan Kundrra?" cut Tejasswi, startling him. She was getting impatient. They needed to take the baby to the doctor if he continued crying. She did not want anything bad to happen to her son.

"I accidentally knocked my forehead onto his forehead."

There. He said it and pleaded with his eyes that his wife would not scold him for that.

Tejasswi was dumbfounded. After a while, "What? You did what?" Her hand automatically went to the baby's forehead and she gently rubbed on it. She could now feel a little bump right in the middle of it.

"I... We played boo. He loved it and laughed every time I said "Boo!"." Karan demonstrated their play. He tilted his head backward with his eyes closed and then quickly leaned forward and opened his eyes as he said "Boo!"

"I love hearing him laugh and get too excited I guess. My forehead bumped onto his, hard, and he cried." He felt guilty.

Tejasswi did not know whether to be happy or scold him. She was happy that he loved playing with their son but she also wanted to scold him for making Kiaan cry, but it was an accident. So she might just have to remind him to be extra careful the next time.

"Hand me the napkin, quick," she instructed him. Kiaan was still crying but the cries had slowed down. Karan quickly reached for the baby cloth napkin with cute yellow duckling prints on the table and passed it to his wife. Teju scrunched the end of the napkin and brought it to her mouth. She huffed and puffed into it and then pressed it on the baby's forehead. She repeated the process until the baby stopped crying. All the while, Karan watched her and their son as he held his little hand. "Sorry, Baby. Papa didn't mean it. It was an accident."

Kiaan had finally stopped crying. He leaned his head against his mother's shoulder as she rubbed his back up and down. Karan, too, had a hand on the baby's back.

"Papa is sorry, Baby. Please don't get angry at Papa." He continuously uttered. Teju smiled lovingly at her husband.

"Would you like to hold him? And I need to go back to the kitchen. I think dinner will be ready in another ten minutes."

Karan nodded but as Teju tried passing the baby to him, Kiaan held on tight to her. He refused to go to him.

Karan pouted. "Kiaan is angry at Papa."

Teju let out small laughs. "Yes, Papa. Looks like he is." Karan pouted more.

She softly caressed her husband's cheek and gave a light kiss on the lips to coax him. He protested when she pulled away from the kiss too early. Tejasswi laughed more.

She then gave Kiaan to him. Kiaan started to cry and held out his hands to her. Teju cooed and baby talked, and made funny voices and faces. She signaled to Karan to do the same. After a few attempts, the first-time father managed to obtain 'forgiveness' from his son and started to laugh and play with him again. Karan felt happy and relieved.

Tejasswi then kissed Kiaan's cheek and her husband's and left them for their father-and-son bonding time.

Both husband and wife stood next to their son's beautifully decorated blue crib, watching their beautiful firstborn sleeping soundly. Karan had an arm around Teju's shoulder and she had hers around his waist. Every few seconds or so, he kissed her head.

"Laddoo, I'm sorry about earlier with Kiaan. I didn't mean it."

She turned to look at him and locked his eyes. "Hey, don't apologize, Sunny. I know it was an accident. You would never hurt him."

Karan pursed his lips into a thin smile. She was right on the last part there.

"Sunny, I understand your excitement when you're with him. He's so adorable and getting smarter and more responsive. I feel the same way too. Just be careful with him next time, okay?"

Karan nodded. This feeling of being a father was so overwhelming that he could not describe it if someone asked. The joy, the happiness, and everything good when he was with his son, his flesh, and blood, filled his whole being. When Kiaan smiled, cooed, giggled, and laughed, they were all blissful moments for him. He loved seeing him happy and healthy.

"I love you, Laddoo."

"I love you too, Sunny."

Karan's incident with Kiaan's forehead bump was the first but not the last.
